About The Position

The City of Hampton is seeking a Network Engineer to join our highly collaborative and dynamic Information Technology Team. In this role, you will provide professional technology services supporting the City of Hampton’s local and wide area networks. You will assist with the installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the City’s network infrastructure. This position works under the general supervision of the Network and Telecommunications Manager, with technical oversight and mentoring provided by senior engineering staff. Assignments are typically well-defined with established procedures, while providing opportunities to develop independent technical skills. Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college, university, or technical school with a degree, diploma or certificate in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
A minimum of two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience supporting data networks.
A minimum of one (1) year of work experience configuring and deploying enterprise wireless infrastructure, configuring firewalls and switches.
An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered for this position to include: Associates degree with 2+ years of experience. One of the preferred certifications with 2+ years of experience. Associate’s degree AND a preferred certification with 1 year of experience. HS Diploma and 4+ years of experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
Requires effective time management and task prioritization skills.

Nice To Haves

Preferred Certifications include: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Palo Alto Networks Certified Security Administrator (PCNSA) or other industry standard certification.
