About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Core Networking team is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join their Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Engineer, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and scaling the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters. AWS Core Networking is focused on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. They own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected. Core Networking's goal is to balance efficiency, performance, and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or a PhD and experience working in a large-scale networking environment
  • 1+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments.
  • 1+ years Unix/Linux command line experience

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS, etc.
  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills; specifically, network performance analysis
  • Experience working with customers to diagnose a problem, and work toward resolution
  • Strong desire to build, ability to multitask, sense of ownership and urgency.
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills and ability to script in Perl, Python, shell, C or C++ is highly desirable as is a strong understanding of load balancing and layer 4-7 technologies

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for deploying network infrastructure across all of our network fabrics that support the Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments and multiple AWS services.
  • Deploy, scale, and automate our network across multiple global datacenters. This includes existing footprints and greenfield locations.
  • Drive scaling of current network designs to meet the demand of our customers.
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality.
  • Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.
  • Create and update our network standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards.
  • Create and implement changes on the network.
  • Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.
