Network Developer

Oracle•United States,
•$83,000 - $166,100

About The Position

The Network Developer designs, develops, validates, and supports network systems for enterprise, data center, and cloud environments. The role works independently on network design and validation, automation and scripting, testing, monitoring, incident response, and performance analysis, while collaborating with vendors, internal teams, and project managers. The position also guides junior engineers and contributes to operational improvements, networking standards, and infrastructure growth. The role supports production and lab network environments, builds automation and monitoring solutions, develops test strategies, and participates in operational support rotations. It analyzes network telemetry and service metrics to identify issues, investigate root causes, and improve reliability and efficiency. The position requires at least three years of relevant network engineering or operations experience and availability for on-call rotations or rotational shifts supporting a 24/7 environment. Oracle lists a U.S. hiring range of $39.90–$79.86 per hour, or $83,000–$166,100 per year. The role may be eligible for equity. Oracle US benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; disability and life insurance; flexible spending accounts; commuter and parking benefits; a 401(k) plan with company match; paid time off and holidays; paid sick leave and parental leave; adoption assistance; an employee stock purchase plan; financial planning and group legal services; and voluntary insurance benefits.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in network engineering or network operations, including production network infrastructure support.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, routing and switching, routing protocols such as MPLS, BGP, OSPF, or IS-IS, and services such as DNS and DHCP.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex network incidents, assess service impact, prioritize recovery actions, and coordinate with internal teams and vendors.
  • Experience planning and safely executing network changes, including assessing risks and preparing validation and rollback procedures.
  • Experience using network monitoring and telemetry data to investigate faults, contribute to root cause analysis, and identify improvements that reduce recurring incidents.
  • Scripting experience developing and maintaining automation for routine operational tasks.
  • Experience leading technical projects or operational improvements, developing runbooks, and mentoring or onboarding engineers.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including communicating technical findings and incident status to varied audiences.
  • Availability to participate in required on-call rotations or rotational shifts supporting a 24/7 environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large-scale networks in a cloud provider or internet service provider environment.
  • Experience across multiple network platforms or technologies, including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, firewalls, or circuit management.
  • Proficiency with Python and experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Experience with network performance dashboards or network modeling and management technologies such as YANG, OpenConfig, and NETCONF.
  • Experience with GPU/RDMA networks, InfiniBand, high-performance computing, or Broadcom/Mellanox hardware.
  • Experience contributing to network builds, upgrades, lifecycle management, or solution design reviews.
  • Experience coordinating operational improvements across teams or representing an operations team in vendor and technical reviews.
  • Relevant Cisco or Juniper certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop standard network systems for enterprise, data center, and cloud networking environments.
  • Validate production networks, assist with scaling use cases, and participate in network solution design and validation.
  • Identify network design risks before deployment and collaborate with vendors and internal groups to validate configurations, hardware, firmware, software, and cloud network code.
  • Contribute to playbooks for standard changes and investigations, and implement guided process improvements.
  • Contribute business logic to automation frameworks and independently automate network tasks in production, lab, and support environments.
  • Build and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health.
  • Write moderately advanced scripts for routine tasks and use infrastructure pipelines and established playbooks and resources.
  • Develop and implement test cases and strategies, guide junior engineers on testing practices, and provide break-fix validation and post-event root cause analysis.
  • Conduct L1 network change reviews, communicate proposed changes for change management review, and verify systems against compliance and readiness criteria.
  • Gather Government, Risk, and Compliance data and develop scripts to streamline data collection.
  • Interpret network metrics, define monitoring measures and thresholds for service level objectives, and implement systems to detect and diagnose anomalies.
  • Participate in operational support rotations, respond to incidents, conduct root cause investigations, and develop tools for frontline support teams.
  • Collaborate with project and program managers to meet testing and deployment milestones; guide junior engineers and act as a subject matter expert for routine issues.
  • Contribute incident response and root cause analysis documentation, participate in roadmap and software architecture discussions, and promote adherence to networking standards.
  • Analyze performance and service metrics, including latency, throughput, and packet loss, to identify efficiency issues and support infrastructure capacity planning.
