About The Position

Supports the design, deployment, and operations of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), a large-scale global cloud computing environment. The role focuses on developing and supporting network fabric and systems, combining deep protocol-level networking knowledge with programming skills for production-scale automation across a global network of devices and servers connected through dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet.

The position leads network lifecycle programs and moderately complex projects, translating high-level architectures into detailed designs and coordinating technical milestones. It provides technical leadership and subject-matter expertise, supports incident escalation and break-fix efforts, drives root-cause resolution, and develops automation. The role also guides and mentors technical staff, works with vendors and product teams, and helps align network technology with product and service requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science preferred.
• At least 8 years of related experience.
• Experience working in a large ISP or cloud provider environment.
• Exposure to commodity Ethernet hardware such as Broadcom or Mellanox.
• Protocol experience with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, and MPLS.
• Experience with networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL.
• Experience with Internet peering and inter-domain networking.
• Experience with scripting or automation and datacenter design; Python is preferred, but knowledge of a scripting or compiled language is required.
• Experience with high-level software design and development.
• Experience with automation systems, framework design or use, and deployment.
• Experience with network modeling and programming, including YANG, OpenConfig, or NETCONF.
• Knowledge of network security design, system performance characterization, and testing.
• Knowledge of data-flow and telemetry design, deployment, and operation.
• Ability to influence product roadmap direction, features, and priorities using excellent judgment.
• Ability to act as a leading individual contributor and team member who provides direction and mentoring.
• Ability to use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues creatively and effectively.
• Ability to work under limited supervision.
• Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Python scripting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead network lifecycle management programs by defining objectives and delivery procedures.
• Organize project technical milestones and supporting tasks; coordinate the work of two or three engineers when serving as technical lead.
• Advise project and program managers and coordinate with immediate and skip-level leadership.
• Collaborate across teams within the same organization and serve as a technical subject-matter expert in cross-functional activities.
• Take technical responsibility for moderately complex projects, including requirements, specifications where applicable, and documentation.
• Decompose high-level architectures into detailed designs.
• Lead engineers in developing network solutions with multiple modules and complex interactions.
• Work with supporting service teams to ensure solutions are supported by monitoring and automation systems.
• Serve as a Tier 2 or specialized escalation point for network events and provide break-fix support for large-scale events.
• Drive systematic resolution of complex network issues and act as a subject-matter expert for root-cause analysis.
• Develop scripts to automate complex, non-traditional tasks and potentially lead network automation design and delivery projects.
• Apply a comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to technical and senior technical staff, including helping junior members develop their skills.
• Collaborate with vendor engineering and account managers to address business and operational issues.
• Participate in developing RFQs and RFPs and potentially lead adoption of new vendor hardware.
• Communicate with product teams and drive technology to meet product and service requirements.
• Coordinate with product teams, networking leadership, and the PMO to assess gaps, solutions, and needs.
