Network Developer 2

Oracle•Nashville, TN

About The Position

Designs and develops network systems for small- and large-scale enterprise, data center, and cloud-based environments. The role independently validates network configurations, contributes business logic to testing and operations automation, automates network tasks, and monitors network health through dashboards, telemetry, and alerting systems. It develops test cases and strategies, supports break-fix validation and root cause investigations, and gathers and improves compliance data collection. The Network Developer 2 helps define network monitoring requirements, responds to incidents, and develops tools for frontline support teams. The role collaborates with vendors, internal groups, and project managers; guides junior engineers on routine issues and testing practices; and supports adherence to networking standards. It also analyzes performance metrics and capacity information to identify efficiency issues and help prepare infrastructure for anticipated growth, seeking guidance when needed.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and developing network systems for enterprise, data center, or cloud-based environments.
  • Ability to validate production networks and network configurations independently.
  • Ability to automate network tasks and write moderately advanced scripts for routine tasks.
  • Experience developing and implementing test cases and test strategies.
  • Ability to monitor network health using dashboards, telemetry, and alerting systems.
  • Ability to analyze network performance metrics such as latency, throughput, and packet loss.
  • Ability to conduct incident response, break-fix validation, and root cause investigations.
  • Ability to collaborate with project managers, vendors, internal teams, and customers.
  • Ability to provide guidance to junior engineers and contribute to technical documentation.
  • Foundational collaboration, planning, troubleshooting, prioritization, and continuous-learning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop standard network systems for enterprise, data center, and cloud-based environments; validate production networks and support scaling use cases.
  • Participate in network solution design and validation, identify design risks before deployment, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams to validate network configurations and related hardware, firmware, software, and cloud network code.
  • Contribute to playbooks for standard network changes and investigations, and implement guided process improvements.
  • Contribute business logic to automation frameworks and automate network tasks in production and lab environments, including repetitive support functions.
  • Build and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health; write moderately advanced scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Use infrastructure pipelines, configuration items, established playbooks, and resources; adapt and configure tools with guidance for new product functionality.
  • Develop and implement standalone test cases and strategies, guide junior engineers on testing practices, provide break-fix validation, and conduct post-event root cause analysis.
  • Conduct L1 network change reviews and communicate changes in preparation for change management review boards.
  • Run tests and verify systems against compliance and readiness criteria under supervision; gather Government, Risk, and Compliance data and improve scripts for data collection.
  • Interpret metrics and define network health measures, trends, and thresholds to support service level objectives; implement monitoring and alerting to detect and diagnose network anomalies.
  • Participate in operational support rotations, respond to incidents, investigate root causes, and seek assistance as needed with escalated technical issues.
  • Implement tools and solutions that help frontline support teams respond to network failures.
  • Collaborate with project and program managers to meet testing and deployment milestones; guide junior engineers and act as a subject matter expert for routine issues.
  • Engage with customers and contribute to incident response and root cause analysis documentation; participate in roadmap and software architecture discussions.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure adherence to networking standards.
  • Analyze latency, throughput, packet loss, and other network performance and service metrics to identify efficiency issues; use capacity, security, and performance information to support anticipated infrastructure growth.
  • Track timelines, prioritize and adjust work as resources or timelines change, and complete work in alignment with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders, troubleshoot standard and non-standard errors using information from multiple sources, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Pursue relevant learning, use feedback and training to improve skills, share knowledge, and contribute to process improvement.
