This role provides installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting support for voice, video, and/or data communications networks. The technician will be responsible for plant cabling, including design, installation, testing, and configuration of telecommunications distribution systems. This includes internal cabling, copper and fiber wiring, grounding systems, fiber inner ducts, fiber systems, and Protected Distribution Systems. Any changes to plant cabling after installation must be annotated in the appropriate infrastructure diagrams. The technician will monitor and respond to hardware and software problems using various testing tools and techniques, and will install and configure network hardware and software, providing network troubleshooting and support. Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technology and participating in special projects are also key aspects of this role. The position involves providing support to various information systems such as JWICS, NIPRNet, SIPRNet, NSANet, and Tier networks. Support extends to secure and non-secure voice systems (including VoIP, end instruments, distribution systems, outlets, encryption devices, signaling parameters, feature capabilities, conference capabilities, and trunk interfaces), secure and non-secure data systems (including IP equipment, Network Management equipment, Switching Systems, ISDN Systems, Channel Service Units, Digital Service Units, Cryptographic equipment, and patch facilities), and secure and non-secure transmission systems (including fiber optic media, media converters, copper media, and cryptographic equipment). Additionally, the role requires installation, configuration, and sustainment support for VTC Systems/Suites, Conference Room Systems, and Public Address Systems. Telecommunications construction support is also a component, including design support, establishing communication rooms, renovation of distribution support, and modification of secure facilities in accordance with DIA and DoW directives, adhering to industry practices like TIA, ITIL, BICSI, National Electric Code, and ISO 9000. This work involves incidental modification related to telecommunications installation projects with minimal real property modification. Network troubleshooting expertise is required to identify and resolve network component and configuration issues, providing recommendations and fixes. Problem analysis and resolution must align with network service level agreements, escalating issues as needed and utilizing the Government priority matrix for service requests.
