About The Position

The Network Analyst position at the City of Tucson’s Information Technology Department is responsible for providing analysis, evaluation and support for the Network Services team. This position includes assisting with network equipment configuration and installation, including various network projects, wireless site surveys and tickets. Work is performed under the supervision of the Information Technology Manager. This position does not supervise.

Requirements

  • Associate degree
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, installs, and upgrades network device software and firmware to ensure systems remain current, secure, and compliant with organizational standards.
  • Configures and verifies network switch settings, including port assignments, virtual network segmentation, connectivity status, and interface configurations to support network architecture and performance requirements.
  • Collaborates with Network Engineers to troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues through root cause analysis and recommendations for process and operational improvements.
  • Analyzes network service requests and troubleshoots both wired and wireless connectivity issues using command-line tools such as ping, traceroute, and nslookup (name server lookup).
  • Utilizes network management tools to efficiently monitor the network, make configuration changes and troubleshoot wireless connection issues.
  • Conducts and analyzes wireless site surveys by collecting floor plans, gathering real-time signal data on-site, and evaluates results.
  • Recommends improvements such as adding or relocating access points and presents findings to the Network Engineer for approval.
  • Collects and uploads network performance data, including wireless site survey results, into network management software.
  • Prepares and generates comprehensive reports based on this data to identify trends, performance gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Maintains organization of network storage room.
  • Coordinates with the Information Technology (IT) Asset Management team to receive, inspect, and prepare new equipment.
  • Applies asset tags following documented procedures and executes surplus processes for outdated or unused equipment according to established policies.
  • Installs, updates, and maintains network-connected devices to ensure they operate with current and secure software.
  • Monitors device licensing and support agreements, tracks renewal and expiration dates, and communicates renewal requirements to maintain uninterrupted service and compliance.
  • Contributes to IT initiatives and cross-departmental projects by providing technical insights and supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
