About The Position

The Town of Oro Valley is seeking self-driven, solution and detail oriented candidates to join the Cybersecurity & Network Operations team in the IT Department. In this position, you will have the opportunity to use your technical and soft skills to take on challenging projects that will maintain and improve the Town’s systems. This position will interact regularly with customer departments, external agencies and contractors in conveying technical information. The Ideal candidate for this position must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. The Town of Oro Valley enjoys a modern IT environment that is evolving and growing with the Town’s needs. Prior work as a Network Administrator or Systems Administrator in a similar role is required. Familiarity or experience with ITIL 4.0, Lean, Agile, DevOps are all a plus. Prior work in public safety is also a plus. Under general supervision, designs, implements, maintains, secures and proactively manages the computer and telecommunications network infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.

  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of wireless WAN/LAN networking technologies.
  • Skill in deploying major network components such as backbone routers/switches.
  • Skill in documenting network installations and configurations.
  • Skill in ensuring accuracy of all work performed.
  • Skill in layer 1 connection technologies such as MOE and PTP wireless.
  • Skill in network security standards and practices, including traffic monitoring, anti-virus software, patch management, VPN's, Terminal Services, and file system access.
  • Skill in repairing, installing and troubleshooting network hardware and software.
  • Skill in the use of Cisco routers and Cisco IOS.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) years’ experience working as or along with a network administrator in a heterogeneous environment with multiple locations and more than 200 nodes.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity or experience with ITIL 4.0, Lean, Agile, DevOps are all a plus.
  • Prior work in public safety is also a plus.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in the design and administration of current Microsoft operating systems and servers is preferred.
  • Four (4) years’ experience with directory services design and implementation, particularly Microsoft Active Directory, Azure, LDAP, and DNS is preferred.
  • Four (4) years’ experience with virtual server environments is preferred.
  • Four (4) years’ experience with SAN/NAS technologies is preferred.
  • Four (4) years’ experience working with network technologies including TCP/IP, Telnet / SSH, SFTP, OSPF, SNMP, SMTP, and HTTPS is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains infrastructure services including network operating systems, file servers, applications servers, remote access servers, local and wide area communications equipment, and network security devices.
  • Provides technical support to staff, including installing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining computer hardware and software.
  • Creates and supports comprehensive documentation on network configuration, network and systems modifications, network standards and related policies, data backup and recovery procedures, and mission critical software and systems.
  • Serves as the escalation point for complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Administers servers, networks, storage systems, and cloud environments to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
  • Adheres to recommendations and guidelines of the cybersecurity team.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities relating to tools, processes, procedures, installation, configuration and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Installs, configures, and supports computer applications on servers and workstations using principles of least privilege.
  • Installs, configures, updates/supports, and troubleshoots local/wide area network devices including file servers, communication devices, security devices, and other data or telecommunications network related equipment.
  • Performs administrative duties including the creation of performance reports and development of network and security standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Performs data and telecommunications network and server device installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Maintains backup schedules, verify data integrity, and ensure successful restoration processes.
  • Performs software and hardware updates to network, servers, and other devices.
  • Participates in incident response scenarios.
  • Provides on-call support during non-business hours.
  • Assists with planning and implementing new technologies, system migrations, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Trains Town employees on desktop software and hardware.
