About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) reliability standards as applied by all Regional Reliability Organizations (RROs). The specialist will collaborate with Transmission, Generation, Commercial Operations, and Corporate departments on compliance matters and interface with these business units during the standards development/review process. Key responsibilities include developing standards, implementing systems to track and monitor compliance, performing daily monitoring tasks, and conducting quarterly/yearly reviews to demonstrate compliance. The role operates under minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in business administration, computer science, engineering, or related field, OR High School Diploma / GED and five (5) years of experience in compliance and/or Information Technology.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in addition to any experience noted above.
  • Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks required to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards applicable to AEP, focusing on Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) & Operations and Planning (O&P) standards.
  • Validate report data and generate reports to serve as audit evidence.
  • Collaborate with AEP business units to compile and validate evidence.
  • Monitor and support NERC CIP security patch management activities, including tracking evaluations, reviewing implementation status, validating compliance evidence, and identifying potential risks.
  • Review and track configuration baseline change tickets to ensure adherence to NERC CIP change management requirements.
  • Assist the Manager Transmission NERC Compliance in aligning reliability standards, strategy, documentation, and evidence with AEP policy.
  • Coordinate with other Transmission Organizations, Commercial Operations, Generation, and Corporate departments on compliance monitoring and tracking.
  • Ensure processes are in place to track and monitor newly developed standards.
  • Capture and confirm appropriate evidence is collected to meet compliance requirements through internal controls.
  • Guide others in reviewing developing standards to enhance monitoring and tracking of NERC reliability compliance standards and facilitate record-keeping of evidence.
  • Participate in periodic audits performed by RTOs and assist in performing internal audits.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance policy.
