About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NP) in an inpatient setting. The facility has a 31-bed NICU and a 20-bed Step-Down Nursery, with approximately 950 admissions per year. The practice group includes 9 Neonatologists and 4 Pediatricians. The role requires 12-hour shifts, with both day and night coverage needed. The NP will manage an average of 8-10 patients per shift in the NICU and 10-12 patients in the Step-Down Nursery. The patient population consists of neonates. The EMR system used is EPIC. Credentialing typically takes 30-60 days.

Requirements

  • Active Maine licensure
  • Board certification
  • NRP certification
  • COVID and Flu vaccinations
  • Minimum 1-year Neonatal experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Maine
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])

Nice To Haves

  • While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
