About The Position

The Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 64-bed, private-room unit with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit, and a Small Baby Unit. The team consists of full-time neonatologists, nurse practitioners, residents, APP and physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and consultants from multiple specialties who deliver advanced care to premature and high-risk infants. The rounding approach is family-centered, and isolation facilities are available. The role involves the management of premature and high-risk infants, including bedside invasive and non-invasive monitoring, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and surgery in multiple specialties, including cardiac and neurology. There are opportunities to perform procedures such as intubation, thoracentesis, PICC, arterial and umbilical lines, as well as newborn resuscitation for all high-risk deliveries. Additional opportunities include assisting with the transport of critical infants and rotating to Level II nurseries in the OSF HealthCare System. Shared governance opportunities are available within the scope of Safety, Quality Improvement, Education, and Focused Unit Based and Hospital Wide Committees. Robust Pediatric subspecialty support is available, including for general cardio and neurosurgery teams. The work schedule is 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.

Requirements

Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987.
Nurse Practitioners must hold a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation.
Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.
BLS/ACLS Certified.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
Prior experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant in a NCCU is required.
Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
Provider shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
