About The Position

The City of Hampton's Community Development Department is seeking a Neighborhood Development Associate. This role is for a professional looking for a career where they will have a direct impact on the growth of a community and an interest in local government. The new Neighborhood Development Associate will translate complex community development, land use, and planning concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand information for high school students, while providing staff support to the Hampton Youth Commission. Successful applicants will also demonstrate the ability to build community-centered partnerships, connect residents with neighborhood resources, and support initiatives including volunteer engagement, strategic planning, neighborhood registration, housing programs, community engagement, grant management, and other neighborhood development efforts.

Requirements

College coursework in Planning, Urban Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field of study.
Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in community engagement, non-profit development, or closely related experience.
Experience working with diverse groups of people including minority populations, youth, and seniors.
Must successfully pass a background check related to the position.
Must possess a driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
Effective communication with internal and external customers.

A combination of education, professional certifications, and equivalent experience may be considered for this position.
