About The Position

The City of Hampton's Community Development Department is seeking a Neighborhood Development Associate. This role is for a professional looking for a career where they will have a direct impact on the growth of a community and an interest in local government. The new Neighborhood Development Associate will translate complex community development, land use, and planning concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand information for high school students, while providing staff support to the Hampton Youth Commission. Successful applicants will also demonstrate the ability to build community-centered partnerships, connect residents with neighborhood resources, and support initiatives including volunteer engagement, strategic planning, neighborhood registration, housing programs, community engagement, grant management, and other neighborhood development efforts.

Requirements

  • College coursework in Planning, Urban Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field of study.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in community engagement, non-profit development, or closely related experience.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people including minority populations, youth, and seniors.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to the position.
  • Must possess a driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Effective communication with internal and external customers.

  • A combination of education, professional certifications, and equivalent experience may be considered for this position.
