About The Position

The Neighborhood Assistance Coordinator serves one or more neighborhoods from a single or a series of satellite Neighborhood Assistance Team sites. This role involves receiving complaints, inquiries, and requests for assistance from neighborhood residents and merchants. The coordinator organizes and conducts activities, or assists neighborhood residents, public officials, and others. Key responsibilities include identifying neighborhood problems and either referring them for resolution or attempting to solve them directly, with follow-up to ensure corrective actions are taken. The role also involves conducting surveys of neighborhood opinions and conditions, developing programs and projects for improved neighborhood conditions and resident involvement, and disseminating information on governmental programs and other activities. There may be opportunities to produce media events, and the preparation of reports and documents is required. Performs related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in sociology, social work or a related field or an equivalent combination of satisfactory completed college credit hours and work experience (with one year of related work experience equating to one year of college).
  • Ability to develop, implement, and/or evaluate and monitor approved projects, programs and activities.
  • Adequate communication skills, both oral and written, with special emphasis on ability to understandably communicate with all types and strata of people.

Responsibilities

  • Serves one or more neighborhoods from a single or a series of satellite Neighborhood Assistance Team sites.
  • Receives complaints, inquiries and requests for assistance from neighborhood residents and merchants.
  • Organizes and conducts or helps neighborhood residents, public officials and servants, and others.
  • Identifies neighborhood problems and either refers them to others for resolution or attempts to solve the problems himself or herself; performs follow-up on referrals to determine whether or not corrective actions have been taken.
  • Conducts surveys of neighborhood opinions, conditions, and other factors.
  • May develop programs and projects designed to bring about improved neighborhood conditions, resident involvement and better relations with governmental bodies.
  • Disseminates information on governmental programs and other projects and activities.
  • May produce or help produce cable television shows and other media events.
  • Prepares reports and other documents as requested.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required.
