About The Position

The Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry is seeking applications for its NEH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Poetics for the academic year 2027-2028. This fellowship is designed to support research projects, particularly those that utilize Emory University's archival holdings in poetry, housed within the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library. The fellowship aims to support scholars who are eager to engage in interdisciplinary conversations centered around the theme of 'Humanities Plural.' While projects do not need to directly address the theme, applicants should explain how their research relates to significant methodological, theoretical, or conceptual issues in the humanities. The fellowship is for one year, with a possibility of renewal, and includes a stipend, research budget, and relocation assistance. Fellows are expected to be in residence, participate in a weekly interdisciplinary seminar, present their research, and teach one undergraduate class. Second-year fellows will have additional teaching responsibilities and receive teaching mentorship.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD (or its international equivalent, such as the DPhil).
• Have not received their doctorate before January 1, 2024.
• If applying without a degree in hand, must have successfully completed all degree requirements by June 30, 2027.
• Briefly address how the project relates to significant methodological, theoretical, or conceptual issues in the humanities.

Responsibilities

• Be in residence for the term of the fellowship.
• Participate in a weekly interdisciplinary seminar.
• Present their research at one of the seminar meetings.
• Teach one undergraduate class in their area of expertise in the College of Arts and Sciences.
• Undertake additional teaching responsibilities and receive teaching mentorship if invited for a second year.
