This position is focused on second shift support at client locations, initial training and NDT Certification will be completed on first shift. The role involves witnessing performance testing of water pumps and line voltage electrical systems on automotive fire apparatus, weld inspection and witnessing operational testing of aerial ladders and platforms on municipal fire pumpers and aerial devices. The technician will perform safety and non-safety certification inspections, analyze and evaluate examination and test results against applicable requirements, and use technical judgment to determine if noncompliance variations compromise continued application. The role may also involve auditing customer quality management or assurance programs and requires independent discretion and judgment when making technical decisions. The technician will interpret and analyze examination and test results against UL requirements, verify the accuracy of manufacturers measuring equipment, and review production and inspection records. Periodic reviews of manufacturers programs of production, inspection, and shipping will be conducted to ensure compliance with UL requirements. Evaluation and facilitation of corrective actions for variations from UL requirements will be necessary. The technician must understand construction and test acceptance criteria and requirements of applicable Standards and procedures, and communicate with manufacturers, customers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and others to conduct inspections. Discussions regarding procedures, test methods, test results, sample selection, and variations in products, devices, processes, systems, and materials will be held to resolve problems and develop requirements. Instruments such as micrometers, voltmeters, and other UL supplied equipment will be used for inspections. Confirmation of proper calibration of manufacturers measuring equipment and potential calibration of UL supplied equipment is required. Examination, variations, and test results must be documented on appropriate UL forms. Adherence to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and all physical and digital security practices is mandatory. Other duties as directed will also be performed.
