About The Position

The NDT Recovery Lead performs NDT inspections (UT, MT, VT) and evaluations to assess the quality of pipes. This role is responsible for ensuring workmanship meets repair, downgrade, or rejection standards according to applicable regulations. The Lead will also supervise and train personnel in the recovery area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, OR Equivalency Certificate, (GED, etc.)
  • 3 years of experience as NDT Level II in UT, MT and VT methods.
  • 2 years equivalent experience in related field OR, Proof of training in an area related to the job assignment.
  • Advanced knowledge in hand-held measuring devices, grinding, operation of thickness gauges and depth gauges.
  • Moderate to Advanced PC Skills in Microsoft Applications, ie, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to use hands, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing/industrial environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, varying temperatures, and noise levels.

Responsibilities

  • Printout results of UT scan and prove-up when requested.
  • Maintain file of UT readouts.
  • Submit daily reports on pipe ultrasonically inspected.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the recovery pipe area.
  • Perform other functions assigned by Supervisor.
  • Operates cranes to move pipe to and from UT unit.
  • Standardizes UT units using Reference Standards Pipes and calibration blocks.
  • Sets UT crab type and equipment for correct size.
  • Ultrasonically inspects weld longitudinal seam.
  • Inspects seam to determine if pipe is acceptable under the applicable specification and code.
  • Uses ultrasonic unit to evaluate indications from the UT scanning operation.
  • Is responsible for the repair activities in his shift.
  • Prepare reports showing pipe numbers and all data applicable to UT of pipe.
  • Cut samples for the metallographic lab when needed.
  • Performs magnetic particle inspection for end of tubes and weld line inspection.
  • Repairs bevels using the beveller tool.
  • Performs lamination inspections when required.
  • Performs dedicated visual and dimensional inspections to evaluate indications using specials tools.
  • Accepts, downgrades, and rejects pipes in accordance with the applicable standards.
