About The Position

S&ME is seeking an experienced NDT/NDE Technician, ideally a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), to join our Metals team in Atlanta, Georgia. This role involves ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects by visually inspecting structural steel, including bolted and welded connections. Fieldwork may require safely climbing steel structures like buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, utilizing fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems. The technician will conduct inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) such as ultrasonic inspection (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds. Responsibilities include managing testing assignments across projects, maintaining and calibrating testing equipment, and creating detailed reports of findings. This position may require working over 50 hours per week during peak periods, as well as off-shift and weekend work. Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems, is considered a plus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • A minimum of 3 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an associate degree in a closely related field
  • Active industry-related certifications:
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or working towards
  • Achievement of ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Willing and Able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
  • Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Climbing heights over 200 feet
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
  • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • AMPP Coatings certification
  • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT, PT and/or MT certification
  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods to uphold impeccable quality standards.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) duties such as ultrasonic inspection (UT) of welds and/or magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
  • Juggle testing assignments across projects, contributing to the success of each endeavor.
  • Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration; can include managing field and laboratory equipment inventories, formal calibration records, and participating in quality systems audits.
  • Craft detailed reports to effectively communicate findings.
