About The Position

Reporting to the Project/Technical Manager, Supply Chain Services, this position is responsible for performing visual inspection and nondestructive testing on cast, forged, welded and machined parts to ensure compliance with technical drawings, client specifications and applicable codes and standards according to SGS procedures. The incumbent will perform various tasks related to inspections and use testing equipment such as magnetic particles and equipment to detect discontinuities.

Requirements

  • Possess one or more certificates from the non-destructive certifying Agency at Natural Resources Canada (CGSB) Level 2 in Magnetic particle, Liquid Penetrant and/or ultrasonic inspection (Required)
  • 5+ years experience directly related to performing inspections and operating NDT equipment, UT, PT, MT. (Required)
  • A college degree in a technical field or a high school diploma combined with significant and relevant experience may be considered as equivalent; (Required)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Certified to at least level 1 as visual inspector per CSA W178.2 (Level 2 preferred) (Required)
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions (French and English) in a safe, accurate and timely manner. (Required)
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment. (Required)
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition in French, English an asset (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Phased Array experience / certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks specified by his/her immediate supervisor
  • Ensure that all equipment necessary is in proper working condition and that the calibration is still valid
  • Ensure he holds the required certification to perform the inspection
  • Maintain the validity of calibration of all inspection equipment assigned to him and in his possession
  • If necessary, calibrate non-destructive testing equipment and provide calibration certificate for filing
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities using magnetic particle and / or other nondestructive testing methods such as ultrasonic inspection and liquid penetrant inspection
  • Perform visual inspection in accordance with applicable code / specification
  • Ensure that onsite work completed at the client’s location is consistent with the mandate, is completed on time and is conducted in a professional manner with meticulous attention to detail in order to provide excellent service
  • Ensure all tests are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, specifications or standards in force, and evaluate results
  • Interact with clients regularly in order to ensure proper communications and a smooth workflow
  • Inform the client should non-compliance be identified at a work site
  • Prepare clear and concise reports within the prescribed time frames (usually 24 hours after completion)
  • Prepare billing sheet and have it signed and transmitted to client whenever required
  • Perform related tasks such as specialized inspections, training, data entry, filing and photocopying documents
  • Ensure all Health and Safety rules are followed, and that work can be performed in a safe manner
  • Report immediately al unsafe conditions to his supervisor
  • Perform in due time all SGS required training (Campus)
  • Responsible for maintaining and renewal of all held certifications (CWB, CGSB, NACE, API, etc)
  • Adhere to all required safety trainings required to perform the task or access client’s facility
