General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking an NDT Inspector J1-J4 to join their Quality Assurance department in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves performing predetermined methods, operations, setups, and specifications for QA inspections and tests to ensure conformance to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements. The inspector will also conduct surveillance audits throughout all phases of ship repair. The position requires a Technical/Associate Degree or 4-6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience. Certification as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (VT, PT, MT, UT) is required, or the ability to obtain it. Knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures, including welding, structural, machinery, electrical, and piping, along with familiarity with various inspection measuring instruments, is essential. The role also demands the ability to work at heights, enter confined spaces, climb ladders, work around moving machinery, and operate equipment like sky climbers, scissor lifts, and condors. Proficiency in reading blueprints, military standards/specifications, regulatory body requirements, and shipbuilding specifications is necessary. The inspector must be computer literate, possess good communication skills, and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and good judgment. Specific requirements vary by Journeyperson level (J1-J4), with higher levels requiring advanced NDT qualifications, proficiency in reporting, conducting audits, training junior inspectors, and advanced computer skills.
