About The Position

This is a 2nd Shift Position. The NDT Inspector-Intermediate is responsible for testing and evaluation of products to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications. They make decisions regarding codes (including AWS D1.1) and specifications, and interpret reports for NDT and quality acceptance. This role actively mentors entry-level NDT Inspectors, monitoring and documenting their on-the-job training progress. The inspector has the authority to reject material or stop work in process to minimize financial loss and risk of customer dissatisfaction. They work under production conditions, requiring accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits. Accountability extends to essential tools and equipment provided, including their maintenance and calibration. Active participation in department safety, demonstrating excellent safety practices and behaviors conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures, is also required. Maintaining timely and consistent attendance is essential. This position reports to the Quality Manager and has no direct reports.

Requirements

• A high awareness for safety at all times.
• High School diploma and 5+ years of work/educational experience or Associates Degree with 2+ years’ experience or Bachelor’s Degree
• 2 years’ experience in fabricated steel environment
• Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations, including conversion of fractions to decimals
• Ability to use basic measuring tools, such as tape measure, calipers, fillet weld gauges, and levels (digital and conventional) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Level II NDT certifications or be able to obtain Level II certification within agreed upon time by Valmont
• Ability to operate NDT testing equipment.
• Ability to work effectively with plant employees, supervisors, management and customers.
• Ability to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines. Must also be able to work through problem with the minimum amount of assistance from the lead person or supervisor.
• Ability to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time result without errors.
• A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Nice To Haves

• 6 years experience in fabricated steel environment
• Associate Degree in NDT from an accredited school
• SNT-TC-1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT
• AWS CWI certification
• Competence in basic quality assurance disciplines including the use of dimensional inspection and gauging equipment
• Other AWS professional certifications
• Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional result

Responsibilities
