About The Position

The NDE / Mechanical Integrity Technician is responsible for performing non-destructive examination activities on piping, pipelines, pressure vessels, and fixed equipment in support of mechanical integrity, inspection, and asset reliability programs. This role supports field data collection, inspection verification, P&ID walkdowns, redline markups, and preparation of field sketches to document as-built conditions and asset status. The NDE / Mechanical Integrity Technician works closely with clients, engineers, inspectors, data implementation teams, and contractor personnel to deliver accurate technical information that supports safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant NDE, mechanical integrity, industrial inspection, or related field experience preferred.
  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous Certification to ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A preferred
  • Completion of NDE/NDT schooling or technical training for methods including UT, MT, and PT required
  • Relevant NDT/NDE certifications or documented qualifications in applicable methods preferred
  • Certification or experience operating manlifts, boom lifts, or scissor lifts preferred where assignment requires it
  • TWIC card preferred
  • Valid driver’s license may be required based on assignment and travel needs

  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System
  • Knowledge of NDE/NDT methods, mechanical integrity practices, and industrial inspection activities for piping, pressure vessels, fixed equipment, and related assets.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and document technical inspection data accurately, including reading P&IDs, marking up drawings, and preparing field sketches and supporting records.
  • Ability to review inspection reports, maintain inspection databases and documentation, and support technical coordination with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Working knowledge of industrial processes, Microsoft Office applications, and relevant inspection, drafting, or asset integrity systems used to support field execution and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical project tasks with oversight from a task lead and/or a project manager.
  • Prepare, collect, organize, and analyze technical data and materials including but not limited to drawings, design documents, graphics, records, and sketches.
  • Assist engineers in the preparation of engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and technical documentation, offering suggestions for improvement when applicable.
  • Prepare and review final report materials, ensuring proper formatting of project report figures and tables.
  • Independently execute non-routine clerical tasks.
  • Perform records management duties including filing, file retrieval, database entry, and library tasks in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Conduct in-depth research and discovery tasks as assigned and provide well organized findings and recommendations based on technical knowledge.
  • Perform ongoing departmental projects and demonstrate accountability for project milestones and deliverables.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Total Quality and continuous improvement by identifying, resolving, and responding actively and with sensitivity to the need of customers.
  • Demonstrate a firm understanding of business and provide suggested opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Perform non-destructive examination activities on piping, pipelines, pressure vessels, and fixed equipment using applicable inspection methods to support mechanical integrity and asset reliability programs.
  • Conduct P&ID walkdowns, redline drawings, and prepare field sketches and related documentation to reflect as-built conditions, corrosion loops, piping circuits, and equipment information.
  • Support safe field execution and compliance with site requirements by maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to standards, procedures, and work process development.
