About The Position

This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. Blue Origin’s Enterprise Engineering Flight Systems group is seeking an experienced Navigation Sensor Hardware Engineer to lead sensor development in support of the New Glenn, Lunar Transportation, In-Space Systems, and Enterprise Engineering business units at Blue Origin. As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will lead navigation sensor hardware, electrical, and system design across all flight regimes for current and future spaceflight systems. This position will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe, low cost, and reliable spaceflight and will directly shape the future of space exploration.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of related experience with navigation sensor and/or avionics assembly design
  • Understanding of IMU error sources, sensitivities and mitigation techniques
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing principles
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical integration of accelerometer and gyroscope sensors into navigation-grade IMU triad
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced new product development environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong familiarity with hardware testing and the ability to operate test equipment such as a vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope, power meters, and thermal chamber

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead in the development of HW and SW for an in-house navigation sensor serving mission-critical applications
  • Evaluate accelerometer, gyroscope, and IMU products and coordinate with vendors
  • Support development of high-end accelerometer and/or gyroscope sensors
  • Characterize and mitigate IMU errors including test setup, test procedures, analysis methods, and calibration techniques
  • Lead process iteration for cost-effective, high-yield, high-rate IMU manufacturing, including calibration and ATP
  • Drive regulatory and certification activities and electrical/mechanical failure analysis
  • Lead acceptance and qualification testing for space-worthy sensors (thermal cycle, TVAC, vibration, shock, EMI, radiation), including test execution, data collection and analysis
