About The Position

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company, is seeking a Navigation Engineer in Lexington Park, Maryland, to support the Mission Systems Group and related military avionics programs. The engineer applies systems engineering principles to support integration of advanced navigation capabilities that enable aircraft to operate in modernized civil and military airspace worldwide. The position provides Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) engineering support across Navy and Marine Corps platforms and contributes to technical direction, planning, and specification development. The engineer supports aircraft integration for Performance Based Navigation (PBN), Area Navigation (RNAV), Required Navigation Performance (RNP), and Flight Management System (FMS) architectures. The role is a hands-on technical contributor who provides engineering analysis, recommendations, and guidance to platform-level Integrated Product Teams and senior navigation engineers. Work is performed under the administrative and general policy supervision of the Core Avionics Engineering Division Director and Position, Navigation, and Timing Branch Head. The position helps ensure Naval Aviation platforms maintain global reach and interoperability, and supports mission effectiveness, safety of flight, and compliance with global airspace mandates. Responsibilities include supporting aircraft integration and sustainment of PBN capabilities; providing technical analysis and design-review support to aircraft program offices; contributing to technical plans and research and development for current and future airspace navigation technologies; coordinating with external groups and organizations across NAWCAD/NAVAIR; supporting evaluation of civil aviation mandates and data-link requirements; assisting with Engineering Data Requirements Agreement Plan (EDRAP) inputs and flight-clearance reviews; and reviewing PBN-related designs, appendices, and architectures with senior engineers. Other duties may be assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Ability to contribute to technical efforts across diverse engineering disciplines and program offices.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and assist in reviewing engineering documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and communicate effectively as part of a technical team.
  • Experience or academic coursework related to the design, integration, or testing of navigation systems, with exposure to PBN, FMS, or civil airspace integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to solve technical problems.
  • Active Secret clearance required to start; must be eligible to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Must meet clearance requirements, including U.S. citizenship and a security investigation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for aircraft integration and sustainment of PBN capabilities, including RNAV, RNP, GNSS approach capabilities such as LPV and LNAV/VNAV, and modern FMS.
  • Provide technical analysis and design-review support to multiple aircraft program offices conducting integration efforts.
  • Contribute to the advancement of PBN capabilities so military aircraft can navigate NextGen and international airspace structures.
  • Assist with technical plans and research and development efforts involving future civil airspace navigation technologies.
  • Collaborate with external groups and across NAWCAD/NAVAIR.
  • Coordinate with program offices and support evaluation of evolving civil aviation mandates and data-link requirements for DoD aircraft compliance.
  • Assist in developing EDRAP inputs and review flight clearances for integration of PBN and related avionics technologies.
  • Work with senior engineers to review PBN-related designs, appendices, and architectures for technical accuracy and compliance with established requirements.
