About The Position

The S'een áa Hít, Navigation Center Coordinator, will provide programmatic planning services to move the project into operation. This position will work with KIC Departments internally to identify staffing and use of space and form partnerships with outside social service agencies to form Memorandums of Understanding for services provided. Engages in community outreach, including knowledge of and utilization of Housing First Principles, to educate the public about instability and levels of homelessness. This position will finalize operation plans, policies, and procedures for this new program, meeting Ketchikan Indian Community requirements and working collaboratively with the Housing Director.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • A Minimum of five (5) years experience working in a trauma-informed environment or practice.
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience with or understanding center-based providers, inter-community networking, and the ability to adapt to a continually changing atmosphere.
  • Must possess CPR/BLS or be able to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise mature judgment in evaluating specific situations and recommending solutions.
  • Knowledge of state and federal “best practice” guidelines for clinical and Social Services case management practices; community organization/development principles and processes.
  • Ability to communicate professionally over the telephone and in person positively and clearly.
  • Ability to utilize maximum degree of professionalism and diplomacy with those who may be experiencing a high degree of stress both mentally and/or physically (both patients and co-workers).

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in social services, behavioral health, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may substitute for education and experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides program oversight for the unsheltered population day services, coordinates program activities, and performs these duties under the supervision of the Housing Director.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for S’een áa Hít Navigation Center, collaborating with other agencies to ensure community needs regarding people experiencing homelessness and the imminently homeless population are considered and met.
  • Develop a plan of operation to determine a time frame, funding limitations, grant requirements, procedures for accomplishing goals and objectives, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various stages of the plan.
  • Establish a work plan for future staff duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Make recommendations to the Housing Director on the quality of services delivered at the S’een áa Hít Navigation Center.
  • Assess the housing needs of the Ketchikan service area and prepare a database of the community needs, working collaboratively with other community partners; Coordinate with the local housing authorities, housing and homeless service providers, and the housing team.
  • Develop outreach programs and strategies to bring awareness of housing navigation services.
  • Responsible for the compliance, enforcement, and periodic updating of all policies and regulations; Support, adhere to, and carry all KIC policies, directives, and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
