About The Position

Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for a Naval Systems Specialist with current or former experience in underwater warfare and underwater combat systems to join their Combat and Control Systems (CCS) team at the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre (CFMWC). This permanent, full-time analyst position is based in Halifax, NS, and provides a range of services in support of Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) and Tactical Development. The analyst will be part of a team responsible for initiating and undertaking at-sea tests, conducting technical investigations, and validating system performance and tactics effectiveness. The role also involves collaboration and liaison with ongoing naval projects and equipment managers. Strong analytical skills, organizational knowledge, and previous work experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Royal Canadian Air Force are important due to the collaborative nature of the work with numerous RCN stakeholders. The position involves a combination of office (mostly) and shipboard (sometimes) environments, with occasional requirements to perform work outside or onboard ships and short duration travel to other test locations. This role offers an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology. Weir Canada, Inc. has operated and managed the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE), a Department of National Defence (DND) facility, since 1953, with operations in Montreal, Halifax, Victoria, and Ottawa/Gatineau. Over 450 personnel are employed by Weir at NETE, providing test and evaluation services to the Royal Canadian Navy and DND across various technical areas.

Requirements

  • Eligible to obtain Government of Canada security clearance of Level II.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and quality.
  • Proficiency in written English is essential, including technical and operational content for a wide audience.
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors and clients.
  • Current/former RCN/RCAF/NATO ORO-TACCO-PWO (Underwater Warfare Specialization).

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may also be given to RCN NTOs or other civilian applicants with degrees in Operations Research, Acoustics, or Oceanography.
  • Consideration will be given to any interested persons who are willing to learn and have an aptitude and desire to work in a technical analysis field.
  • Familiar with Naval Operational Test & Evaluation procedures, Operational knowledge of military shipboard systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis including the specification of test objectives, metrics, required resources, and test procedures.
  • Provide underwater warfare subject matter expertise with respect to RCN Underwater Warfare weapons, sensors, countermeasures, and combat management interfaces including working knowledge of weapons, sensors and tactics.
  • Provide technical and operational advice to CFMWC (the client) and other Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinate efforts directed at data collection, event reconstruction, analysis, reporting, and data management.
