Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking experienced Principal Systems Engineers with a background in Naval Radar engineering. This role provides technical leadership for the hardware and software integration of a complex radar system. The Principal Systems Engineer will work closely with engineering and program management teams, apply best practices, mentor team members, and capture lessons learned to improve integration processes and schedules. Responsibilities include planning and managing milestones, balancing competing priorities, and supporting both internal and external customers. Naval Radar engineers in this role perform radar data analysis and tracking, develop and manage system requirements, integrate hardware and software, create test plans and procedures, evaluate system functions and interfaces, and verify requirements in support of system sell‑off. This position requires minimal oversight and includes coaching and reviewing the work of other engineers. The Principal Systems Engineer will contribute to the development of new procedures, processes, analyses, and standards. Technical expertise and the ability to independently make informed decisions will be critical to the success of complex integration efforts.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or other programing languages.
  • Experience with radar data and/or analysis tools.
  • Experience with system integration and/or test (e.g. AAW, BMD, etc.).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DOORS, Rhapsody, Cameo, and/or other digital engineering tools.
  • Experience developing requirements, test procedures and reports, and/or analysis of complex systems.
  • Experience working in integration labs, test facilities, or field environments.
  • Experience diagnosing root causes of system failures, implementing corrective actions, and developing preventative measures.
  • Subject Matter Expert in Systems Requirements, Architecture, Integration, Verification, and/or Validation.
  • Experience presenting technical analyses, findings, and recommendations to leadership and customers.
  • Experience working with the US Navy customer.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Math, Applied Physics, or Systems Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and integration/verification documentation in simulated and operational environments.
  • Develop and implement day‑to‑day integration and test plans aligned with program schedules.
  • Lead the technical execution of complex integration and test events
  • Perform system requirements analysis, develop and manage requirements, and ensure traceability throughout integration and test activities.
  • Analyze and resolve hardware, software, and system issues through detailed data review and debugging.
  • Integrate hardware and software components into tactical systems and assess overall system functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate across teams to address system‑level issues, implement technical improvements, and support program objectives.
  • Interface regularly with Engineering and Program Leadership to communicate status, risks, and technical findings.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve effective system integration and functional maturity.
  • Produce integration documentation, analyze test results, verify requirements, and clearly communicate findings to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support extended or off‑shift hours as required during integration and test activities.
  • Support customer events with domestic travel up to approximately 20%.
