About The Position

Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for an N/C & Conventional Grinder Operator (Aerospace). The successful incumbent will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining both numerically controlled (NC/CNC) and conventional (manual) grinding machines to manufacture high-precision aerospace components. This role requires strict adherence to aerospace quality standards, tight tolerances, and detailed process control.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
  • Experience operating CNC/NC and conventional grinding machines.
  • Strong understanding of grinding processes, cutting tools, and aerospace materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret aerospace drawings and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100.
  • CNC programming or G-code editing experience.
  • Certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
  • Experience with SPC (Statistical Process Control).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate N/C/CNC grinding machines (surface, cylindrical, and centerless) for aerospace components.
  • Set up and operate conventional/manual grinding machines, including surface and cylindrical grinders.
  • Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, GD&T requirements, and work instructions.
  • Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling, and machine parameters based on aerospace materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, hardened steels).
  • Perform precision grinding operations to extremely tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to maintain compliance with aerospace specifications.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.
  • Perform wheel dressing, balancing, and machine setup for both CNC and conventional grinders.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections in accordance with aerospace quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including inspection reports and traceability records.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
