About The Position

Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for an N/C & Conventional Grinder Operator (Aerospace). The successful incumbent will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining both numerically controlled (NC/CNC) and conventional (manual) grinding machines to manufacture high-precision aerospace components. This role requires strict adherence to aerospace quality standards, tight tolerances, and detailed process control.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
Experience operating CNC/NC and conventional grinding machines.
Strong understanding of grinding processes, cutting tools, and aerospace materials.
Ability to read and interpret aerospace drawings and GD&T.
Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Experience in aerospace manufacturing.
Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100.
CNC programming or G-code editing experience.
Certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
Experience with SPC (Statistical Process Control).

Responsibilities

Set up and operate N/C/CNC grinding machines (surface, cylindrical, and centerless) for aerospace components.
Set up and operate conventional/manual grinding machines, including surface and cylindrical grinders.
Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, GD&T requirements, and work instructions.
Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling, and machine parameters based on aerospace materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, hardened steels).
Perform precision grinding operations to extremely tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to maintain compliance with aerospace specifications.
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.
Perform wheel dressing, balancing, and machine setup for both CNC and conventional grinders.
Conduct in-process and final inspections in accordance with aerospace quality standards.
Maintain accurate documentation, including inspection reports and traceability records.
Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
