MWR Maintenance Worker
About The Position
This position is located at the Salty Crab, San Clemente Naval Reserve Island, California, Naval Base Coronado. The purpose of the position is to perform maintenance-related tasks using skills associated with a variety of trades. The incumbent performs semi-skilled and unskilled work using standard methods to operate and maintain physical plant facilities, and performs work in at least two trades involved in maintaining and repairing buildings and related fixtures. Work may include plumbing repairs and installation; diagnosing and repairing air-conditioning units; electrical repairs and replacing light bulbs and tubes; basic carpentry and drywall repairs; and painting using brushing, rolling, or spraying methods. Other related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of experience demonstrating knowledge of an applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the position's duties.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations, procedures, equipment, commonly used chemicals, and basic safety.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with management, staff, and guests.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check and resolve any discrepancies as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation.
- Must be able to perform considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- Must be able to perform moderately strenuous physical labor, including unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying supplies and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
- May be required to climb or descend ladders or stepladders.
Responsibilities
- Perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities.
- Perform maintenance and repair work in at least two trades, including plumbing, air conditioning, electrical work, carpentry, or painting.
- Repair plumbing fixtures and components, and install water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets, and sinks.
- Identify causes of faulty air-conditioning equipment and repair a variety of air-conditioning units.
- Repair electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures; replace fluorescent and incandescent bulbs and tubes.
- Measure, cut, construct, and repair wood or wood-substitute items; repair or replace screens, window and door frames, molding, trim, and drywall.
- Apply coatings by brushing, rolling, or spraying, ensuring surfaces are fully coated and free from drips and runs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
