About The Position

The third course of a five-course sequence that facilitates the acquisition of Musicianship and Ear Training objectives in diatonic and chromatic music of increased complexity. Melodies, in major and minor modes and in simple and compound meters, will include changing meters and hemiolas. Melodies will feature embellishing tones and tonicizations of closely related chords and modulations to closely related keys. Rhythmic exercises will include more complex subdivisions and exercises with changing meters within and between simple and compound meters.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Music.
  • Evidence of satisfactory university-level teaching in Musical Skills courses.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching collegiate level musical skills courses, using movable Do system (Do-based minor) and the Takadimi system of rhythmic solmization.
  • A doctoral degree in music is an asset.
