About The Position

Under the direction of the Liturgy/Music Director, the Musician is responsible for performing during the weekly liturgical music program for Sunday and liturgical celebrations. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, adhering to the principle of living in a manner worthy of the call received. This ministerial position involves supporting the parish's spiritual and pastoral mission by recognizing and upholding the unique Catholic Mission of the School, speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee must not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with these teachings. Giving evidence of living Gospel values includes being an active member of a faith community, being open to the importance of a personal faith journey, and striving to model the teachings of Jesus by attitude and example.

Requirements

  • Possess a working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church
  • Employ flexibility and follow direction; be a team player and be self-motivated
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners and the general public
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to successfully pass a background and criminal history check.
  • Clean and neat personal appearance

Responsibilities

  • Perform as a lay minister in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Attend rehearsals as scheduled by the Director.
  • Rehearse as needed on the minister's own time in order to be prepared for weekly rehearsals.
  • Be well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of the duties including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church.
  • Maintain a special respect for the church building during rehearsals and prior to and after liturgies.
  • Attend Music Ministry meetings in order to address all aspects of a music ministry in the parish.
  • Renew ministerial commitment by participation in parish Liturgy Convocation, music ministry retreats, and other events scheduled by the parish for ministry renewal.
  • Maintain choir space in the church, including storing all equipment and materials appropriately, and keeping area clear of clutter.
  • Be accountable to the Pastor through the Liturgy/Music Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
