About The Position

This course, MU336, is a continuation of MU237. It facilitates the acquisition of Musical Skills sequence-level objectives in complex chromatic music and establishes the foundation for acquiring sequence-level objectives in simple atonal contexts. Melodies will include uncommon and challenging skips in all diatonic and chromatic contexts, in major and minor modes, irregular and changing meters, including note values as short as the divided subdivision of the beat. Rhythmic exercises (both performance and dictation) will include note values as short as the divided subdivision of the beat in simple, compound, irregular, and changing meters.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Music.
  • Evidence of excellent university-level teaching in Musical Skills courses.
  • A high level of achievement and personal skill in Solfege technique is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in music.
  • Experience teaching senior collegiate level musical skills courses (200 level or above).
  • Experience using the movable Do system (Do-based minor).
  • Experience using the Takadimi system of rhythmic solmization.
