About The Position
El Centro Milagro is seeking a Music Director for its 2026 holiday production, A Xmas Cuento Remix by Maya Malan-Gonzalez. The production is a high-energy theatrical experience featuring Christmas songs in Spanish and English, blending storytelling, music, and movement. It combines humor, heart, and cultural rhythm in a contemporary reimagining of a holiday classic that celebrates family, community, and kindness. The Music Director will teach and rehearse 11 songs with the cast using provided sheet music, lead music rehearsals, and help actors learn vocal parts and harmonies. The role involves collaborating with the director and production team throughout rehearsals, attending scheduled rehearsals as needed, and attending preview performances. Approximately 25–30 hours of music direction are anticipated during rehearsals. Rehearsals begin October 26, 2026, and are generally scheduled during evenings and weekends, arranged according to the Music Director’s availability. Preview performances begin December 2, opening night is December 4, and the performance run is December 2–20, 2026. Compensation is a $700 stipend.
Requirements
- Ability to teach vocal music to performers with varying levels of musical experience.
Nice To Haves
- Previous music direction experience for theatre, educational theatre, choir, or related performance settings.
- Spanish-language proficiency.
