About The Position

This position is responsible for providing music therapy services to hospice patients and their families, supporting physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs. The Music Therapist will be responsible for developing and supervising a music therapy internship program. Supportive of Village mission and values. Completes training hours as required by policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy.
  • Current board certification as a music therapist (MT-BC) required.
  • Strong music skills in voice, piano and guitar are required.
  • Knowledge of the state and federal Hospice rules & regulations.
  • Knowledge of the regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • One year of hospice experience is required.
  • Applicants will be required to provide an audio or video recording sample of their work.

  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient visits as stated in the plan of care.
  • Contributes to IDT planning and cohesion of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Updates team regarding patient care.
  • Completes music therapy assessments and documentation in a timely manner per company policy.
  • Develops and implements individualized music therapy treatment plans, provides one-on-one and group sessions, and documents progress towards plan of care.
  • Completes projects such as life reviews, patient recordings, and support for expressing end of life concerns.
  • Supervises music therapy intern and oversees music therapy practicum.
  • Educate patients, families and staff about the benefits of music therapy.
  • Conducts music therapy presentations in the community, as needed.
  • Facilitates music therapy support groups for Hospice by John Knox Village patients and families and provides music therapy services for additional John Knox Village programs as assigned.
  • Provides live music and/or music consultation for patient memorial services when feasible.
  • Complies and adheres to all John Knox Village’s mission, goals, operations and policies.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
