About The Position

Eastern State Hospital, founded in 1773 and located in Williamsburg, Virginia, is a state-of-the-art campus with two patient care buildings, serving 300 patients with a staff of over 900. As part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system and accredited by the Joint Commission, ESH is seeking a Therapist I – Music Therapist. This role is responsible for providing Music Therapy treatment to address the psychiatric, social, emotional, and physical needs of adult/geriatric patients. The position involves planning and implementing goal-oriented Music Therapy treatments, actively participating in patient-related conferences, and maintaining good oral and written communication for documenting patient progress. The Music Therapist will integrate knowledge, skills, and Music Therapy principles into practice, complete age-specific assessments and evaluations, and must be able to drive a State Van to transport patients. This is an essential personnel position, requiring work during emergencies or facility needs, and may require working different shifts and/or overtime as requested.

Requirements

• Graduate from a college or university with major studies in Music Therapy accompanied by experience that would meet the requirements for certification.
• Music Therapist must be board certified (MT-BC) by the Virginia Board of Social Work.
• Experience in completing age-specific assessments and evaluations.
• Experience working with psychiatric patients in a clinical setting, in Music Therapy and in activity programs.
• Experience in planning and implementing goal-oriented Music Therapy treatment appropriate to the needs of adult patients with Psychiatric Diagnosis.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements goal-oriented MT treatment appropriate to the needs of adult/geriatric patients.
• Attends and actively participates in scheduled patient-related conferences.
• Demonstrates good oral and written skills for communicating and documenting patient progress.
• Integrates knowledge, skills and abilities and MT principles to practice.
• Completes age-specific assessments and evaluations.
• Drives State Van to safely transport patients to activities and outings.
• Works in the event of an emergency or facility need.
• Works different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
