About The Position

Ithaca College's student employment program offers meaningful experiential learning opportunities that develop transferable skills sought by employers across various industries. These positions allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world professional settings, fostering both personal and professional growth. This role involves tutoring a wide range of students in music theory, an average of 4-5 hours per week during the 2026-27 academic year. The tutor must also be able to assist with aural skills occasionally as needed. The pay rate is $16.00/hour. The anticipated work schedule involves set hours in a static schedule, typically between 3-8pm, plus additional tutoring appointments by arrangement. This includes fall and spring semesters, and final exam periods.

Requirements

  • Outstanding academic achievement as evidenced by GPA
  • Outstanding achievement in aural skills and music theory courses, with grades of A or A- in each course taken
  • Current enrollment in or past completion of Music Theory III and Aural Skills IV
  • Formal or informal experience teaching/tutoring aural skills and music theory required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Personal qualities conducive to one-on-one conferences, such as a friendly, approachable manner; patience; good listening abilities; and a sense of maturity and responsibility
