About The Position

Provide engaging, student-centered general music instruction for grades K–4, offering a variety of options such as chorus, world music, and drumming to actively involve learners. Design and deliver dynamic lessons that spark curiosity, participation, and creativity while meeting diverse learning needs and fostering a lifelong appreciation of music.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of the voice at the assigned level.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience with elementary school-aged children is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to students.
  • Teaches students to sing with well-formed vowels and a clear, free, focused, in tune sound.
  • Prepare and carry out plans for instruction which, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interest, and abilities of students.
  • Employ appropriate instructional methods and materials, with consideration given to available resources and other relevant conditions.
  • Evaluate and follow up on student progress on a regular basis.
  • Acquiring appropriate teaching materials and resources.
  • Conducts rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music.
  • Uses music of high quality in a variety of types and styles.
  • Matches activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to instruction and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Consult, as necessary, with colleagues, students, and parents to improve student learning; seek assistance of school specialists as required.
  • Ensures that music and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate or current.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
