About The Position

Excellence Community Schools (ECS) is seeking a passionate, patient, quick-thinking, & innovative Music Teacher. This position currently includes responsibility for classroom music for Elementary or Middle School. Experience in a classroom music setting engaging all children is desired. Our schools prepare young scholars to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private, and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. We accomplish this by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum, which at the earliest of grades has an eye towards college preparation. To achieve this, our schools create a supportive and caring environment that at all times has high expectations of all students. We offer a differentiated, project-based learning environment that seeks to develop high-level analytic and critical thinking skills in all of our students. Our engaging and rigorous approach to educating our scholars is implemented by a collaborative team of teachers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Connecticut State Teaching Certification in Education/Music Grades 1-6 or Middle School required
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in music education, working with children, and providing music instruction in an urban school setting is required.
  • Passionate about teaching music and enforcing the learning of music concepts required.
  • Have educational and/or professional training in developing and implementing a music education program for children

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in music in a variety of settings & uses effective instructional techniques tailored to individual student’s goals and objective & provides instruction and support in the area of music education.
  • Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
  • Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior.
  • Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
