About The Position

The Music teacher will create an atmosphere that fosters active student participation in the learning process. Instruction should be balanced, giving students an equal opportunity to progress through relevant content standards for their respective elective discipline(s) to prepare them for the next level of study and college-level coursework or specialized programs, as well as practice those skills through active creative expression, physical development, health literacy, performance, and/or interdisciplinary exploration.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in a Music, Education with a relevant concentration, or a related field.
Valid Washington D.C. teaching credential or ability to attain credential by August 2025.
Experience working in Urban Education.
Praxis II passing score required in the content area.

Nice To Haves

Master’s in related field and/or prior teaching experience highly desired.
Knowledge of K-12 teaching standards and frameworks.

Responsibilities

Provide an engaging learning environment conducive to student success.
Develop and implement a balanced and engaging Electives curriculum (Art, Physical Education, Health, Music, Drama) that promotes understanding and skill development.
Promote and support a program with promotion based upon standards mastery in their specific elective discipline(s).
Lesson plan, assess, instruct, monitor, and report student progress for course.
Communicate knowledge in an interesting, stimulating, and effective manner, using a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials, promoting student choice, creativity, and accountability in their chosen elective area.
Teach SEED DC’s Electives curriculum in dynamic, participation-oriented classes that focus on exploration, skill development, and practical application.
Examine student assessment data to inform decision making and to guide and improve instruction.
Promote high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner.
Integrate literacy strategies into the instructional framework as applicable to their discipline (e.g., interpreting artistic concepts, understanding health information, analyzing musical scores, writing reflections on physical performance).
Differentiate instruction to reach all learners.
Plan, organize, and deliver appropriate lessons for assigned area(s) of responsibility, and submit lesson plans to principal on an as requested basis.
Take student attendance.
Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
Assess student’ learning in a professional manner and communicate students’ progress to parents and fellow teachers to facilitate future instruction.
Identify special needs of students and seek additional support, as needed.
Assist in general building supervision and discipline of students outside of the classroom.
Integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks and strategies to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Collaborate with Student Life team members and Student Support to facilitate Falcon Hour.
Collaborate with fellow teachers on planning, professional development, and standards-based curriculum and common assessment design to contribute to the continuous improvement of instruction at the school.
Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, staff development programs, and other sponsored activities.
Assist in data analysis and professional development planning and delivery to support the School Improvement Plan and the Professional Learning Plan.
Serve as a member of the School Improvement Team.
Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement.
Participate in summer programming including direct service to incoming and returning SEED youth and curriculum work with colleagues.
Maintain and submit necessary records, progress reports, and grade reports.
Provide final grades and progress reports to administration, as necessary.
Communicate with administration and parents, as necessary.
Support the administration and proctoring of school-wide and standardized high school assessments as required by the school and local educational agencies.
Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined in the SEED PCS Staff Handbook.
Performs other duties as assigned.
