About The Position

St. Mary, Chelsea is a mid-sized parish in the Diocese of Lansing serving 1200 families and is seeking to fill the position of Music Minister. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with the Pastoral Team, support staff, choir members, cantors and instrumentalists. This person will be responsible for developing, planning & directing all liturgical music in the parish. We desire a mix of traditional and contemporary worship music. We have an existing group of 5-8 cantors, a choir and several specialty ensembles.

Requirements

• Excellent communication skills with the Pastoral Team, support staff, choir members, cantors and instrumentalists
• Understanding of liturgy
• Proficiency at the organ and/or grand piano
• Experience with directing a SATB choir
• Ability to cantor

Nice To Haves

• Ability to teach privately using parish facilities at no cost, as building schedule allows

Responsibilities

• Developing, planning & directing all liturgical music in the parish
• Leading 3 weekend Masses
• Leading seasonal Masses
• Conducting 1 week night rehearsal
• Conducting seasonal rehearsals (Children’s Choir)
• Being available for weddings and funerals (at an additional stipend)
• Working office hours 1 day a week for administrative/preparation purposes
