About The Position

The Salvation Army’s Divisional Headquarters is hiring a Music Instructor. This role serves as a music instructor for The Salvation Army Divisional Music Department in Massachusetts. The hours for this position will vary by week but will not exceed 8 hours per week. Locations and work hours will vary and be assigned by the Divisional Music Director. The instructor will travel to assigned Salvation Army corps in Massachusetts to teach and lead music classes, as well as group and private music lessons. They will also work with the Divisional Music Director and Salvation Army officer(s) to promote and plan local music events for assigned corps, including helping local leaders plan programs, advertising music programs to the public, and implementing special events like concerts and recitals. The instructor will prepare musicians for seasonal performances during Christmas and Easter, and encourage and help prepare musicians to participate in Divisional music programs like Youth Arts Ministry, Star Search, and Music Conservatory. All problems or concerns must be communicated to the Divisional Music Director, and the instructor must remain current with KeepSAfe training. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience leading and teaching a music discipline
  • Musical experience or expertise in one or more of the following music disciplines: brass, vocal, guitar, piano
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal transportation
  • Ability to work and relate well with people
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to work weeknights and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Teach and lead music classes, as well as group and private music lessons at assigned Salvation Army corps in Massachusetts.

  • Communicate all problems or concerns to the Divisional Music Director.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
