About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking Music Instructors for woodwind, brass, and string lessons for children and adults. The instructor will work with the school director to schedule teaching days, which will be Monday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesdays. The role involves providing a well-rounded and comprehensive music education, including ear training, correct instrument technique, proficient music reading, and encouraging ensemble playing and preparation for public recitals.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• Driving Test and clean MVR check (if applicable)
• Criminal background check is required with certification for Protecting the Mission policies and procedures
• Ability to interact effectively with people of all ages, ethnic and cultural diversity
• Capability to work within a team environment
• Patience and adaptability
• Punctual

• AA or BA Degree in Music

Responsibilities

• Provide music lessons for all ages in woodwinds, brass, and/or strings (children and adults)
• Teach music theory as applicable
• Instruct students on how to use their instruments
• Assign homework and/or practice for students to take home
• Teach ear training
• Teach correct instrument technique
• Teach reading music proficiently
• Instructing and encouraging students to play in ensembles
• Preparing students for public recitals
