About The Position

Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle, seeks a music director for the 8th grade’s musical, Hans Christian Andersen, Jr. This is a temporary contract position from October 19, 2026, to February 12, 2027. The production will utilize provided backing tracks, so while strong piano skills are required for teaching and rehearsal, performance-level accompaniment is not necessary. Familiarity with music editing software is highly desired.

Requirements

  • Ability to attend all agreed upon rehearsals and performances (transportation not provided).
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
  • Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checks.
  • Strong piano skills for teaching and rehearsal purposes—able to play individual vocal lines or two to three lines with chords.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with music editing software is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Attend production meetings.
  • Attend auditions and collaborate with the director on casting.
  • Lead large-group music rehearsals.
  • Provide individual and small-group vocal coaching to soloists and featured singers.
  • Assist in stage rehearsals by playing tracks, cueing vocal parts, and correcting mistakes.
  • Edit vocal tracks as needed.
  • Lead vocal warm-ups before rehearsals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
