About The Position

This is a full-time position scheduled to work 40 hours per week, primarily Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional Sunday hours required for special events and weekend activities. This position performs a variety of responsibilities as the Museum & Visitor Services Coordinator, facilitating weekday, weekend, and evening activities, meetings, and events for the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center and Visit Brownwood. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in customer service, event support, office administration, or digital content creation preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of standard museum practices, visitor center services, and local event support.
  • Proficiency in photo/video editing, social media management across platforms like Instagram and Facebook, and basic website content updates.
  • Skill in operating modern office software including Microsoft Office Suite, digital file management systems, and point-of-sale retail software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities to interact courteously and professionally with visitors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills to manage event scheduling, store inventory, and administrative workflows efficiently.
  • Physical capability to lift and set up event materials up to 50 pounds, paired with a dependable work ethic and professional appearance in alignment with City standards.
  • Ability to see and handle small objects.
  • Must be able to work evening and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate directly with the Visitor Services Manager and Communications Department to create, shoot, edit, and publish high-quality social media content (reels, graphics, stories, posts) for Visit Brownwood and Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center channels.
  • Oversee content updates for VisitBrownwood.com and museum pages; actively maintain and audit the community events calendar, local business listings, and tourism landing pages.
  • Assist the Visitor Services Manager with planning, vendor coordination, on-site activation, and execution of major tourism and municipal events.
  • Assist with team scheduling for standard weekend shifts and coordinate specialized staff coverage for special events and facility rentals.
  • Assist walk-in visitors and phone callers with trip planning, local business/hotel recommendations, and community information; interact tactfully and professionally with the public.
  • Process and maintain gift shop operations including inventory control, product sourcing/ordering, point-of-sale transactions, retail displays, and budget recommendations for retail stock.
  • Coordinate rental bookings and customer billing; communicate scheduling and event setup details to the Museum Facility Operations Assistant and weekend staff.
  • Handle daily administrative and clerical tasks, including processing daily deposits, assisting with End-of-Year (EOY) reporting, managing purchase requisitions, ordering office supplies, and maintaining petty cash.
  • Support museum programs, group tours, Family Day events; assist in opening and closing exhibits as needed.
  • Work with local hotels, merchants, venues, and regional partners to gather event information and distribute tourism marketing materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Manager.
