About The Position

This position involves a variety of manual labor tasks to support municipal operations. Responsibilities include elevated tank cleaning, chemical handling, landscaping, equipment maintenance, and assisting with water main repairs. The role requires operating various tools and equipment, performing general cleaning duties, and ensuring traffic safety when needed. Communication with the public and colleagues is also a part of the job.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma
  • Provide own transportation
  • Requires valid Driver's License
  • Must be willing to learn to operate equipment used to perform the duties of the classification.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to work at heights up to 200 feet
  • Must be able to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test.
  • Must be physically fit, able to do "heavy" to "very heavy" physical work: "heavy work" means exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. "very heavy work" means exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Elevated tank cleaning
  • Chemical loading and unloading
  • Landscaping, maintaining trees, shrubs, and cutting grasses using chain saws, power tools, mowers, and hand tools
  • Moving furniture
  • Outlying station cleaning
  • Trash and sludge removal
  • Jackhammering concrete
  • Shoveling and spreading gravel/concrete, top soil, applying seed & straw
  • Cleaning and pressure-washing equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors
  • Cleaning and restocking restrooms
  • Snow and ice removal, spreading salt and other ice deterrents
  • Driving city vehicles such as pickup trucks and cars for delivery of goods
  • Using pneumatic and air tools
  • Assisting with water main repairs, digging around pipes, climbing in and out of excavations while working in excavations, backfilling excavation sites, and cleaning up the surrounding area after a main break.
  • Jackhammering and sawing cutting all types of pavement, concrete, and other materials
  • Laying hot/cold asphalt
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Cleaning and restocking crew trucks, and Cleaning their tools and equipment
  • Tool maintenance
  • Using measuring instruments for a variety of applications
  • Assisting maintenance crews
  • Flagging traffic
  • Setting up traffic control (e.g., distributing cones, barrels, lights, etc)
  • Reading, typing, and sending emails
  • Using phones, cellphones, vehicle communication equipment
  • Interacting in a professional manner with the public and GCWW employees
  • Other related duties, as assigned
