The Opportunity As our Municipal Government Relations Specialist, you will play an important role in helping CAEH strengthen communities, scale impact, and accelerate progress toward ending homelessness in Canada. You will work across systems change, policy, and consulting to help move priorities from ideas into action. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meaningful work, strong collaboration, and solving complex challenges in a fast-moving environment. Requirements

  • A minimum 3–5 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, policy, or advocacy, preferably with a municipal focus.
  • Strong understanding of municipal government structures, processes, and decision-making in Canada.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, housing, and related social policy, and of the intergovernmental landscape.
  • Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder-management skills, with political acumen and sound judgment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, including the ability to distil complex policy into clear, persuasive materials.
  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities and adapt approaches to different municipal contexts.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Alignment with CAEH’s mission and values, including a commitment to equity and to ending homelessness.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in homelessness, housing, or community systems work.
  • Experience in nonprofit, public sector, consulting, or social enterprise environments.
  • Experience facilitating, coaching, advising, or delivering services.
  • Experience applying equity, anti-oppression, decolonizing, or systems change approaches.
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
  • Lived expertise related to homelessness or housing precarity.
  • Graduate degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal elected officials, staff, and partner organizations across Canada.
  • Identify and nurture opportunities to connect municipalities with CAEH’s consulting and fractional services, surfacing relevant offerings organically through trusted relationships and ongoing connection.
  • Work with Business Development to connect communities to solutions and CAEH’s service offerings.
  • Monitor municipal policy, council agendas, budgets, and decisions relevant to homelessness and housing, and brief internal teams on developments.
  • Support the design and delivery of advocacy strategies and campaigns directed at municipal governments.
  • Prepare briefing notes, policy summaries, correspondence, presentations, and submissions tailored to municipal audiences.
  • Represent CAEH at municipal meetings, associations, forums, coalitions, and events, building visibility and influence.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across the organization to align messaging and priorities.
  • Support CAEH’s community partners to strengthen their own municipal advocacy and engagement.
  • Support CAEH’s federal and provincial government relations work, as part of an integrated Government Relations and Advocacy team.
  • Assist with the development of new service offerings, based on discussions and experience with the municipal sector.
  • Maintain accurate records of government contacts, interactions, and commitments in CAEH’s CRM and complete any required lobbying registration and reporting.
  • Track, evaluate, and report on engagement activities and outcomes against advocacy goals.
  • Stay current on trends in municipal government, homelessness, housing policy, and intergovernmental relations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Collaborate across teams to move strategic priorities forward.
  • Use data, evidence, and feedback to guide decision-making.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across projects, systems, and service delivery.
  • Support work that balances mission impact and organizational sustainability.
  • Help foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
