About The Position

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire an attorney to prosecute Class "C" Misdemeanors in the Pearland Municipal Court of Record. This attorney advises peace officers and other employees regarding legal and enforcement procedures. The lawyer conducts legal and investigative research and assists other members of the Legal Department as directed. Successful candidates may be looking to gain trial experience, considering a transition from prosecution in a District Attorney or County Attorney's Office, or interested in exploring municipal law as a career path. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate/LL.B. from an ABA accredited law school is required.
  • A Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License is required.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas with membership in good standing is required with the State Bar of Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous criminal law experience, preferably as a prosecutor for a city or county, is preferred.
  • Previous municipal law experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute Class "C" misdemeanors in Municipal Court of Record and appeals to the County Court.
  • Draft Complaints, motions, briefs, orders and memoranda.
  • Represent the City and State in bond forfeiture proceedings in the Municipal Court of Record.
  • Research, review, and analyze applicable statutes and case law and advise police officers, enforcement officers, and others regarding legal issues pertaining to detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal cases and enforcement actions; provide training to police and enforcement officers and others regarding changes in law and procedure.
  • Comply with continuing legal education requirements established by the State Bar of Texas and all other requirements to maintain law license.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
