About The Position

The Municipal Court Clerk oversees the daily operations of the Wisconsin Dells Municipal Court under the direction of the Municipal Judge. Responsibilities include communicating with the public, maintaining detailed court records, scheduling proceedings, processing financial transactions, and preparing required reports. The Court Clerk also performs duties related to collections and reporting for the Parking Utility. The individual in this position must take the oath prescribed under Wis. Stat. §19.01 and must be bondable.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Degree emphasizing computer skills, bookkeeping or work experience displaying the same.
  • Experience or training in a legal related field.
  • Either presently bonded as a notary or capable of being.
  • Any combination of experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
  • Demonstrate a professional and impartial demeanor when interacting with the public.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate with an array of people.
  • Ability to stay calm and diffuse an aggressive situation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to follow new law updates and enact them when applicable.
  • Knowledge of computers and office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with questions regarding court procedures while refraining from providing legal advice.
  • Receive, process, and maintain citations and related court documents.
  • Prepare and maintain court dockets.
  • Organize and attend court sessions, including supervising sign-ins, distributing paperwork, and recording pleas and disposition information.
  • Process not guilty pleas, adjournment requests, jury demands, substitution of judge requests, and appeals.
  • Schedule Pretrial Conferences, Motion Hearings, Refusal Hearings, Restitution Hearings, Trials, Good Cause/Indigency Hearings, and other proceedings as directed by the Municipal Judge.
  • Record trials and applicable hearings and preserve recordings in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Report dispositions involving traffic cases, underage alcohol violations, ID violations, habitual truancy, and juvenile drug paraphernalia offenses to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation within five working days.
  • Implement collection actions for unpaid forfeitures and parking citations.
  • Compile and distribute monthly reports required by the municipality, county, and State of Wisconsin.
  • Maintain and update court forms and informational materials to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond to open records requests for the Municipal Court and Parking Utility.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Municipal Court, City Attorney, Police Department, and School Resource Officer.
  • Maintain and safe guard confidential juvenile records.
  • Assist the Municipal Judge with administrative duties as assigned.
  • Attend the annual municipal court clerk training seminar developed by the judicial education office at least once every two years.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned within the Administration Office.
