About The Position

Performs professional services in the areas of social media, web media content, presentations, promotional campaigns, graphic design and written materials. Implements an effective digital communication and marketing program, including the creation of digital content on the City’s social media platforms. Edits digital content and uses analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of social media communication and contributes to the creation and implementation of digital content and media strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, web design and development, fine arts, advertising, or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in the graphic design field, media or marketing, photography or videography, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of City organization, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for developing and presenting marketing, promotion, advertising, public information, and community relations programs.
  • Knowledge of technical requirements for print and electronic media.
  • Knowledge of design fundamentals including page layout, typography, design composition and color.
  • Knowledge of local system access, file sharing, and security guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of photography and videography techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of graphic design concepts.
  • Knowledge of computer software and applications related to graphic design such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Skill in using a computer and related equipment and web development and site management applications, to draft and create social media posts, articles, blogs, reports, policies, memos, and various types of correspondence.
  • Skill in using industry-standard software to create and design graphics, animation, and special effects, including photo editing.
  • Skill in clearly communicating reasoning behind design choices.
  • Skill in analyzing problems and determining effective solutions.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Skill in following and effectively communicating technically complex instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City departments and City employees.
  • Skill in performing duties in print, web and video.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and creates graphics, signs, brochures, reports, documents, and other collateral materials for City departments.
  • Performs various graphic design functions such as development of logos, advertising campaigns, and marketing materials, publications, newsletters, brochures, posters, fliers, and signage.
  • Creates, designs, writes, edits, curates schedules, and publishes digital content on the City’s social media platforms.
  • Researches, develops, and recommends ideas and formats for various projects as assigned.
  • Plans, organizes, and evaluates technical considerations for typesetting, printing, photography and camera work.
  • Performs photography and videography at City functions and events for social media and special projects as needed; edits photographs and videos.
  • Contributes to the City’s brand standards, style guidelines, policies, and social media guidelines; communicates to City departments to ensure standards are met.
  • Collaborates with other staff members and other City departments to meet all project timelines and deliverables from creative concepts to completion.
  • Works with vendors and printers on assigned projects.
  • Researches and evaluates hardware and software required to support assigned work; updates digital assets as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
