About The Position

WPTV, the ABC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is seeking a Multimedia Journalist based in Martin County. The journalist will uncover stories important to local audiences, build trusted relationships, and deliver compelling, community-focused journalism across platforms. The role owns stories from pitch through production, combining reporting, visuals, and community connection.

Requirements

Computer literacy, including familiarity with newsroom computer systems.
Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills.
Ability to post content to various websites.
Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license, good driving record, and proof of insurance meeting the company's required limits.

Nice To Haves

BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience.
Generally, 3+ years of experience in a related field.
Videography and non-linear editing experience.
Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment.
Experience editing video with Final Cut Pro or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research.
Organize material, determine story emphasis, and write according to editorial style and format standards.
Shoot video and still photographs to illustrate stories.
Edit, or assist in editing, videos for multimedia platforms.
Appear on television for taped interviews or narration.
Give live reports from event locations or a mobile broadcast unit.
Work cooperatively with an assigned photographer, when applicable.
Assist the news producer in preparing newscasts.
Assist online staff in preparing multimedia stories.
