About The Position

Postmedia has an immediate opening for a bright, curious, dedicated storyteller to join the award-winning team at The Chronicle Herald in Halifax. The role is remote within the Halifax Regional Municipality and is a full-time, permanent existing vacancy. The journalist will work in a collaborative newsroom to find, develop and tell stories that matter to people in Halifax and affect their daily lives. The role involves producing distinctive journalism for digital, print and emerging social media platforms, and contributing to digital strategies that amplify reporting and bring readers closer to the action.

Requirements

• A journalism degree or significant work experience in digital storytelling.
• A valid driver’s license and car.
• A talent for explanatory journalism.
• An interest in civic and political journalism.
• Care about the community served, have a passion for storytelling, and be a collaborative team player who welcomes trying new things.
• Be coachable, curious, willing to ask difficult questions, and committed to accuracy and excellence.

Responsibilities

• Find, develop and tell stories that Halifax residents care about and that affect their daily lives.
• Write short- and long-form stories that help readers live and thrive in Halifax.
• Produce distinctive, insightful journalism across digital, print and emerging social media platforms in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
• Contribute to digital strategies and formats, including newsletters, reader experiences, Q&As, videos and emerging social media.
• Build a social media following by telling stories others are not telling.
